Write Like a Rock Star!
The workshop
How do you transform a blank sheet of paper into a poem, story, or report? With techniques to help generate ideas and get them on paper, this interactive after school concert workshop has children & parents collectively brainstorm ideas, then write and record a song.
Along the way they learn the importance of metaphor, alliteration, imperfect vs. perfect rhymes, phrasing, brainstorming, story structure, writing strategies and more! In short, they learn that Rock Stars need language arts curriculum.
After the program, their song is posted on Thadeus Rex’s blog for the world to hear!
By connecting curriculum to Rock n’ Roll, we get reluctant parents excited to help, because everyone loves watching their child Write Like a Rock Star!

Write Like a Rock Star! Writing Contest
The Write Like a Rock Star writing contest is a place where kids can share their poems with the world. Parents & teachers get to help, and we’re able to reward their creative efforts!
Each year Thaddeus turns the winning poem into a song for his next CD. The young poet becomes a professional songwriter, even earning royalty checks for their work.
Further, every participant is awarded a certificate so they can show the world they know how to Write Like a Rock Star!

The Write Like a Rock Star Classroom Kit
Created in conjunction with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s education department, these kits help you incorporate Rock Star teaching strategies in the classroom. Designed to complement current RTI strategies, these kits do not require adoption of any new teaching systems, but help you show students why they should care about reading.
Why must every Rock Star be a master of metaphor? How can a rock song increase reading skills? What secret strategy did one Title I school use to motivate more than 125 student submissions to a writing contest every week for 10 weeks?
These lessons and more await you in the Write Like a Rock Star Classroom Kit. Kits include CDs, lyrics, lessons, tips, background and more. Kits are included in your intervention program fee, and are also available as an a la carte purchase.
